Shoes of Prey at Work

Hello Sunshine Lovers! We're back this week, as promised, with outfit posts featuring our Shoes of Prey designs! Kim here, reporting in for duty! For this post, we're showing off my set of shoes. We'll take a gander at Kat's pairs later this week. We didn't intend for there to be a work theme with this post, but as I was reviewing these photos I realized that these outfits are representative of typical work outfits for each of us.

Having an autonomous job at a large tech company, I'm not limited to typical dress code standards (other than common sense rules for a professional work place). Basically, I wear whatever I want! Sometimes I'm unapologetically running around the office in workout gear and sometimes, I look like I'm going to a cocktail party. In another life, I would have loved a job that requires Olivia Pope worthy ensembles on the daily so today on the blog, I'm completely channeling that kick-ass-lady-boss energy. This dress hangs in the closet as the holy grail business casual dress. I found it at a "Ross Dress for Less" a couple years ago; a bargain hunter's ultimate achievement. Also, can we talk about how perfect my MK Selma matches my shoes? Best bag/shoe combo I have in my closet, for sure!

Kat's outfit, as always, is so effortless and cool. It's funny how much influence the people around you can have on the way you dress. I'm really feeling Kat's clean, monochromatic palette as of late. Kat usually opts for cool flats or nice booties to pair with outfits like this. I love how these heels elevate her ensemble to a chic, sophisticated look while still maintaining that "I woke up like this" vibe. Her skinny jeans look AMAZING with these heels, I'm taking note! But let's be real, THOSE LEGS THO.

Our Shoes of Prey Design Reveal!

IMG_2672

Hello, Thursday Lovers! Kim here, back to welcome you to our second installment of our Shoes of Prey series! Today, we reveal our custom designs. I wanted to kick off by diving a little bit more into the design experience with Shoes of Prey. I raved a bit in the last post about how I think their 3D design experience is a major home run. First, you start out by choosing your shape. There are 12 to choose from, as shown below. I love that the heel height is completely customizable to your preference. Next, the real fun starts. You can choose from 170 (ONE HUNDRED SEVENTY) fabrics and textures in all colors of the rainbow! They even have vegan options. The design experience is super interactive and you can swap different textures in and out with a couple clicks of the mouse! Last, but not least, you can specify embellishments ranging from bows, to ruffles, to custom inscriptions (perfect for weddings and commemorative occasions!). Shoes of Prey also makes accommodations for extra small or extra large sizes or even different sized feet. Jodie thought of everything. Honestly, can't rave about this experience enough!

So without further ado, let's check out our shoe designs! Kat and I each designed two pairs of shoes. First set up is mine! If you guys follow along with my personal blog, you know how much I adore a pretty heel. My first pair, a pointed heel, is basically a copy of a shoe I saw at the launch event. However, instead of having the heel and toe in different textures, I decided to put the entire heel in fish scale and keep the color block concept. My second pair was inspired by one of Kat's designs! I loved the idea of a black top mixed with a gold heel and platform. Basically, I'm a copy cat, but I am quite satisfied with my choices :)

And then of course, we have Kat's designs. These kitten heels are so cute. And again, if you follow her personal blog, you'd understand that they are very Kat! I can see her pairing these shoes with every set of basics in her closet. AND THOSE BOOTIES. How fierce are these?! Can you blame me for wanting my own version? I remember Kat picking up a pair of color blocked booties at the launch event and exclaiming that she wanted one of her pairs of shoes to be booties. If you have a Shoes of Prey design studio near you, I recommend checking it out! They are wonderful for finding inspiration.

Next week, Kat and I are swapping our shoes back and forth and showing you how we styled our designs! Can't wait, y'all!

Shoes of Prey @ Nordstrom Bellevue

Hello, pretty people! Kim here! I'll be taking over the blog for the next couple weeks as Kat gallivants around the tropics for work. We are so stoked to share with you a series of posts featuring a game changer in world of women's shoes, Shoes of Prey. On their site, you can custom design your own shoe and they'll ship to your home in 4 weeks. *pause* WHAT?! This is a GENIUS idea. Why hasn't this been done before?! After I found out what Shoes of Prey was all about, my mind was exploding with logistical questions. How does manufacturing work? How do you keep costs reasonable? A pair of sandals, flats, or oxfords has a base starting price of $129, heels start at $179 and heeled booties start at $199. This seems like a great deal considering the fact that these are made to order for you. In addition, returns are hassle free! Shoes of Prey is truly determined to create the perfect pair(s) of shoes for every woman.

The tech girl in me also needs to geek out over their beautiful design app. It is SO MUCH FUN and so easy to design shoes with their app and on their site. I'm so glad they took the time to nail every single customer scenario with their design experience. They hit a clear home run with this one. Even if you aren't keen on investing in a pair of your own, there's no harm in playing around with the design studio!

Back in November, Kat and I were lucky enough to attend the Shoes of Prey launch event at Nordstrom Bellevue. Shoes of Prey is exclusive to Nordstrom in the United States and their first US design studio launched at our local Nordstrom! THE BEST PART?! We got to meet Jodie Fox, Co-founder and Chief Creative Officer of Shoes of Prey and Janie Bryant, costumer designer for Mad Men. Janie created her own collection of Shoes of Prey and is featured in the shoe gallery. These women were absolutely inspiring and sparked my entrepreneurial spirit. I loved learning from Jodie about how Shoes of Prey came to be and reading more about their story via their press release here. I was in awe of how much this woman had achieved. She absolutely floored me when she said that this was just the beginning of a very long road for Shoes of Prey. You've already made it in my book, Jodie! But thank you for the reminder to stay hungry and stay passionate, even when you've already achieved so much success.

Clearly I am in very deep concentration over my own shoe design here. Super serious business.

Later this week, Kat and I will be sharing our Shoes of Prey designs with you! As a teaser, I wanted to show you a picture (right, below) of a shoe that I really liked at the design studio. I adore the pop of blue in this pointed heel, but the contrast of material on the toe and heel aren't quite to my taste. And HERE lies the beauty of Shoes of Prey- I can create a shoe that is exactly to my liking :)

Can't wait to share our shoe designs with you! xoxo, Kim

Jumpsuits for Everyone!

Hello hello, pretty people! Kim here! Do you have a go-to friend that you're always sending links of your current online obsessions to? Obviously, that friend for me is Kat. I was shopping around for alternative holiday looks last month and came across this beautiful jumpsuit on Forever21 online. I've gotten pretty good at eyeballing fitted dresses and knowing whether or not the proportions will work for my body. I had a good feeling that the cinched waist on this jumpsuit would be a flattering fit. I knew Kat was looking for a solid jumpsuit too so I sent it her way. We both ended up purchasing it and we both ended up loving it! Although Kat and I are shaped quite differently, the jumpsuit still managed to compliment each of our figures.

Kat and I coincidentally chose to use blazers to style our jumpsuits. I think a blazer here is a natural choice, the jumpsuit almost has a professional feel to it (minus the peekaboo organza up top, of course!) I love that Kat thought to add a belt to hers. It's a nice detail that gives her ensemble the perfect amount of oomph. I think we need to start a Sisterhood of the travelling jumpsuit trend! You and your group of friends can take turns adorning this to fancy parties and trade between outings!

Building Layer on Layer

Happy new year, y'all!! It's been a whirlwind of a last few weeks with the winter holidays and such, but we're back together now (phew, it was a long break to be away from Kim!) and more excited than ever to share these outfits. Kim showed up with the most amazing scarf and jacket combo and I knew I had to give it a try with styling as soon as I saw her. Turns out, our take on these pieces within our own styles translated seamlessly in both outfits!

Under the layers of the jacket and scarf, Kim channels one of her signature feminine outfits. I'm definitely digging her tough but girly look! One of the things I love about Kim's style is her ability to mix and match colours within an outfit and translate them well throughout. The maroon skirt with the olive booties are one of my favourite colour combinations of hers to date!

Ok... so because we're giant goofballs, we couldn't not share these photos. Between shots, we may or may not have gotten a little crazy trying to compete with the other person over whose shoes are more comfortable and practical. This competition - if you can even call it that - resulted in us doing ridiculous lunges and squats. Turns out, we both have super comfy shoes! haha Gotta get those workouts in whenever you can, right?

Happy Monday!!
